Walther Quality Control???

I've been giving hard thought to a new Walther P99, in 9mm. In doing some online research, the info I've gotten is all over the place, from "finest gun ever" to "biggest POS I ever owned". Is this a common problem with the newer Walthers? Is their Q.C. really that spotty? I haven't seen such wide variance on some others pistols I've checked on, mostly Glock and Sig.

    Ever so often, major manufacturers like S&W, Ruger, Glock, Sig, Springfield, Walther, etc. make a gun that has "issues." If you are unfortunate enough to have bought one of them, the manufacturers always make it good under warranty.

    I have had to send back several guns. In every case I was more than satisified with the factories fix.

    Usually the guys who lable their gun a POS, they did not try to work it out under warranty, or they bought it used and the warranty did not transfer.

    Whoever said the pen is mightier than the sword obviously never encountered automatic weapons.

    The older Walthers that were made in Germany, are where you usually hear the "finest gun ever" phrase. The newer ones, after Smith and Wesson bought them out, is mostly where the "POS" comes from. There are good and bad ones by all makers. Stick with the SIG. [;)]

    I don't agree. I've owed pre-war German, post-war German and US made PPs. The US made guns were the equal of the pre-war guns and much better than the German PPs that were being made at the same time. To be specific, the polish job on the post war guns was awful. Every corrner was rounded on them.

    I have a newer P99 Military and it is outstanding. My SIG P226 now resides in the safe, the Walther is my off duty carry and home defense pistol.

    Thanks guys, this is more what I wanted to hear. I think some of the folks griping were .40 cal P99 owners, and maybe it gets a little "loose" with the bigger boom. I've fired the baby glock in .40, and didn't particularly enjoy it either.

    In a 9mm, though, I'm narrowed down to the P99 and a Sig 229.
    The Sig's a fine gun, for sure, but the Walther really feels better, and has perfect balance in my hand. Plus, since I have to work for a livin', the $200+ price difference means mo' money for ammo!

    Sig 229....hands down. It doesn't get any better!!!!!You may shoot some extra ammo with the Walther, but you'll have the Sig forever.

    My P99 has been the best pistol I've owned. I lkove it, and I wouldn't trade it for anything.
