    In have several Smith 44's, 2 of which are 4", but no 3". I have never heard of such a problem with the 3" version. It is basically the same gun as its longer barreled brothers, ie, same internal parts, cylinder etc.

    If anything, it would be less succeptible to pressure since the pressure drops off sooner with the shorter barrel. As long as your using SAAMI spec ammo or "quality" reloads, you should not have any problems like the cylinder flying open during firing.

    I suspect what you heard resulted from someone using ammo loaded by someone who does not know what their doing or a gun that someone did some "home gunsmithing" on.

    I've owned a few 3" 29's...never had a problem.
