12 GA Target loads-where to BUY

Hello I was wondering is any one knows where to get reasonable 12 GA target loads for reasonable price. I am just getting in to clays and trap (although) the range that I go to has only Trap. Any way, since they have restrictions (Neighbors) they only permit target loads. So I went to local Sports Authority and found out that one box is 5.99$.

    Good evening marek13. If you choose to buy by the box, check Wal-Mart, Winchester AA for 4.99 a box. If you get real serious, your best bet is to buy by the case, and several cases at a time. You can work with a dealer and may get it down to around $4.00 a box depending on which brand you shoot. The cheapeast way is reloading your own. Your break-even point will be less than a 100 boxes. Meaning the cost of a decent reloader, powder, primers, wads , shot, etc. Once you reach the break even point, reloading can be less than $2.00 a box, if you search for deals on your components.

    Ask the other trap shooters. They will know where cheaper shells can be obtained. I live in Ky. and some of the cheaper shells are, Wolf, Nobel, Estate, Remington Gun Club, and Federal Top Gun. Depending on the quantity purchased, flats (10 boxes)are $30-$40.

    Wolf are Russian, Noble are Italian, and Estate, Remington, and Federal are MADE IN USA.

    In late August Walmart usually runs shotgun shells on sale to draw bird hunters in the store. They sell them at less than most dealers pay for the ammo. Good time to stock up on the whole year supply.

    Whoever said the pen is mightier than the sword obviously never encountered automatic weapons.

    Best advice is to see if your club can compile a HUGE shell order, and buy direct from the maker at wholesale prices. When it's all said and done, 4 cases (1000 rounds) is $106. I still have a case, unopened, if you want it, but you would have to pick it up.

    If you have the time, reload. Reloads can be done for less than $2 a box, and a Lee reloader is only 30 or 40 dollars, new.

    "target load" is kinda subjective.Most ranges have shot size and/or veolcity restrictions as guidelines.Most trap is shot with no. 8 shot or smaller,and nearly all of this would fall into the 'target load' area,IMHO.
    'Handicap' and 'super handicap' loads are stouter and may fall above your ranges guidelines,but doubtful.The guys shooting from the 27 yd.line usually shoot hotter loads,which is what these two are geared for.
    AS to price:walmart,bi-mart,sportsmans' warehouse.But check with the club first.They generally know someone who sells supplies to finance their 'trap habit.'

    My advice would be to buy from wal-mart until I had built up a good supple of empty hulls(I prefer Winchester AA). Then I would borrow(if I could) a reloading machine from a friend and load some shells just to see if I would enjoy loading. Some people do and some don't. It also depends on how envolved you get into shooting trap and skeet. The more you shoot, the more you save on reloading but there is the draw back of having to relaod more also. At one point several years ago, I was having to load about 250 to 300 shells a week to feed my habit. At some point in time you might find yourself saying(as the tomcat said to the skunk) I've enjoyed about all of this I can stand.
