Pedersoli 1873 Springfield Carbine Repros

Hello,

Was wondering if anyone could tell me of the reliability of the Pedersoli reproductions? I've heard the Springfield repros have had trouble with the trapdoor flying open during firing - can anyone confirm/deny this?

  Pedersoli usuallly makes the highest quality available repros in europe. I'd get one any day.

  I don't have a repro, but do have a couple of original rifles. The Trapdoor is not an overly strong action; that said, the modern repros are made of stronger steels, but the action could still spring/flex if HIGH PRESSURE loads are used. I would only use ammo loaded to original pressures and made so as to be safe in the Trapdoor models. You can find safe loads listed in most of the loading manuals sold by the powder makers, even the freebies available at gun shops or available from the makers. Ninety percent of my shooting with my Trapdoors is done with black powder, the propellant it was designed to shoot. Emery

  There were occasional problems with the H & R Trapdoor replicas shooting open. They were caused by the trapdoor locking cam slipping on the round shaft that attaches it to the cam latch, so that when the trapdoor was closed on a live round, it looked to be locked, but the cam was not fully engaged.
  The cam was held in position on the round shaft by a set-screw, and the problem could be fixed by drilling a dimple in the shaft,or grinding a small flat spot, allowing the set screw a positive seat, and preventing the cam from turning on the shaft.
  The original trapdoors used a square shaft, so the cam could not rotate on it.
  I don't know if Pedersoli use a round or square shaft on their repros.

  I have the Pedersoli Sharps in 45-120 and the quality is outstanding
  and its a shooter to. Forgot to add, zero malfunctions
