257 weatherby
Why don't any gun makers except weatherby use this caliber. You see other weatherby calibers in remingtons, winchesters, brownings etc. but never the 257. I would like to see the remington 700 in 257 WM

Not that many. Hence the lack of other-than-Weatherby rifles chambered in that caliber.
I personally have always liked the original Weatherby.

All the Weatherby Magnums are great. Some just didn't catch on as well as others(as stated previously). I think everyone likes the 300 Weatherby so much as it overshadowed the 257. The rifles are some of the nicest built. If you want a 257, find a Weatherby in that caliber, you won't be sorry. 0 -
The 257 Weatherby was Roy Weatherby's pet cartridge and he never allowed this caliber to be farmed out to the other gun maunfactures for production in their rifles. I don't remember where I read this, but that was his responce when asked in an interview. 0 -
Alot of supposed problems about Weatherby are just pure fabrications.
Basically due to jealously, business, and hunting style differences.
Roy was smart.
> He was an upstart, not one of the 'gun industry boys'.
> He had 'crazy ideas' back in those days that bucked the tide.
> He was a smart marketing guru, hob nobbing with the rich & famous who helped advertise via word of mouth.
> Surrounded himself with forward thinking, hard working people, who saw him as a visionary.
> He patented his cartridges. The other guys couldn't copy him w/o paying patent royalaties.
> Developed the best sales & info catalogs. Even got people to pay for them, while the other guys had to give theirs away.
> Took lots of hunting trips, the other guys didn't or couldn't.
> Developed the most advanced hunting scopes in those days.
> Had no formal training, OR endorsements from any major competitor.
> Used foreign makers for his guns, and equipment, while alot of thinking was if it's not from the USA....it's no good.
> Designed and patented the Weatherby rifle stock that still is one of the best stocks that reduce "felt recoil".
> When other companies were making guns with a utility look, he was making & selling beautiful guns.
> Created one of the best triggers ever made.
Many gun writers, and manufactures of those days, literally hated him, so it's easy to see why alot of misinformation evolved.
Even today it still happens.....the lying, and misinformation.
Oh, don't forget the copying, and still the comparing that's done.
Was he perfect? No.
Always right? No.
His hard work, creating some thing new, different, bucking the "world is flat" thinking embodies the American dream of business in my eyes.
For that, he is an icon to me.
257 Weatherby in an ultra light is an ideal all around'r for me.
George Klucky the hunting film maker and Dave Mast a friend of mine shot a Dall ram in Alaska with a Ruger sent to him by Ruger that made the record book at one time using a rifle in 257 Wby Mag.
Sold me the 25-06 he was going to use till he got the 257 Wby Mag, bnut wouldn't part with the 257.

In July or August Weatherby is bring out the Vanguard in the .257 Weatherby in a Walnut sporter. The Sporter in .338 Win I hand in my hands looked great. The one I have on order is going to Wyoming with me on an Antelope hunt. If I had the extra cash I would buy the Mark-V, but That cash went to a 3x9 small dot Leupold VX2. Good scope and good gun or Great gun and cheap scope. To me Two good out does great and cheap

verasblj, if you want a 257 Weatherby mag and not pay the price of a Mark V, find your self a Reminfton 700 25.06, have it rechambered to the 257 Weatherby mag. A rechamber job will cost you about $75.00 to $100.00. You will have to find a Mag bolt for the Reminfton 700. Reminfton standard bolts are best swapted than opened up. I may be wrong but I don't think you can open up a standard Remington 700 bolt to take a magnum case. If you go with a Winchester model 70 with the claw ejector you could open the bolt face up to take a magnum shell.

Opening up bolt faces is a very common practice.
Remington bolts are all the same size whether they are set up for the .223, the 30-06 or the 375 H & H. The outside diameter is 0.695" for all of the bolts. The bolt face can be .378", .473" or .532" to accommodate any cartridges from the .221 Fireball to the long magnums such as the .375 H & H. Gunsmiths routinely open up bolt faces in order to handle cartridges with larger diameter rims. The extractor has to be replaced with an aftermarket version of something like the original Sako extractor. Some gunsmiths have even opened the Remington bolt face to be able to chamber the .460 Weatherby with a rim diameter of .582".
Post '64 Winchesters, Pre '64's and Mausers can be opened up, just the techniques to do so are different.

Quite a number of "25" fans have opted for the Roberts in an "Improved" case. You get comparable Weatherby performance with around 20 grains less powder. Also, reduces the push on the shoulder. Shoot more rounds with less punishment. Accuracy is great. GW. 0
