Beretta Bobcat
I have a Beretta Bobcat. I simply CANNOT get the slide off to break the darn thing down. When I look at the end of the slide (muzzle toward me) they two sides of the slide at the bottom don't appear to be cut exactly the same, therefore the slide doesn't clear the barrel to come off. Has anyone else had this problem, and what can I do about it?

rufe: I have the manual and follow the instructions exactly. However, when I tip up the barrel and pull the slide forward as it says, one side of the slide doesn't clear. The other it appears the metal is in the way so it won't clear. Not sure I'm making sense here. I will try to tremember to take a photo tonight and post it.

i am at the shop, so i pulled a BOBCAT out of the display cabinet and field stripped it on my mouse pad. its the same / identical design as my dads TAURUS PT22, and breaks down in a simaler fashion.
on the left of the frame is the lever that releases the locking lug holding the BBL in place. push the lever forward (towards the muzzle). this will "pop-up" the BBL. swing / manipulate the BBL as far formard (towards the front of the gun) as it will go. grasp the slide one either side utilizing the gripping-serrations andpull back slightly, then push the slide forward (towards the front of the gun / towards the muzzle. the slide will come off with no hesitation or hang ups.
quite a simple and easy to maintain and operate design. nice gun. best regards, mike.

After getting excellent from this site and unable to remove the slide, I took the gun to three gunshops. All had Bobcats. All the slides could be removed easily. None of them cvould remove my slide. Looks like I need to send this to Beretta. There's a defect somewhere.

Q1 - Have you ever had the slide off before?
Q2 - does it fire the way it is?
Q3 - I just read the .PDF on the Bobcat, downloaded from Beretta international.
........It's the same as my Tomcat.
Is the slide on plumb and square with the frame?
At the rear, one should easily me able to tell.
You know you push it BACK one 1/16" to 1/8" before raising the front.
If it is not going back, something tells me the spring levers, one or both, and jammed.
I'd CAREFULLY remove one grip at a time, and inspect for damage or a piece of metal that has fallen in. Blow out the area with spray cleaner. I've used brake cleaner, but it is not good on plastic. REMOVING THE GRIP CAN CAUSE GREAT HAVOC. I HEAR THERE ARE SPRINGS AND STUFF UNDER THE GRIPS THAT CAN GO FLYING.
The firearms are under a one year warranty, three year if you register it with Beretta when purchased. Just be ready for a three month turn-around if sent to Beretta. There is an authorized service center in California which might give you a four to six week turn-around.
If you want to sell it as-is to me, I'd take it. I have a weakness for buying broken guns.0 -

4) It is going back, no problem. The front raises, but it doesn't lift off.
I'm well past the warranty. It has original wood grips, which I understand haven;t come with the gun since the 80s.
I did send it off. Beretta said 6 weeks tops. Sent it FedEx. They allowed 2-day delivery for 15 bucks.

Too late now, but after you push it back a nudge, and begin lifting it up, you also begin pulling it forward.
But if three gunsmiths couldn't do it, apparently there is a problem.
So say the odds.0 -
In case anyone's interested, I got my Beretta back from the factory. Said they "staked the ejector pins and adjusted the recoil springs..." What does "staked the ejector pins mean?" WHatever it means, it kept the slide form being removed.

had the same problem with a Beretta 21, what has happened is that one of the pins has moved out under the slide and is keeping the slide from comming off...I went to a gun shop & the guy said he had seen this problem before ...he forced the slide pass the pin ....when looking at the frame you could see the pin sticking out just a taste, just enough to cause the jam ..he tapped it in a new pin and charged me $15, I still have it and it never gave me any trouble....I guess thats why Glock said in the advertisements no pins, no screws no bolts , less parts less things to go wrong....snothappens! 0 -

I never knew it had an ejector, but thre is a stationary rod protruding above the feeding area of the mag on a 3032, which I think is similar. It the pins holding this piece of metal came loose, or were never driven in correctly, or were of the wrong diameter to start with, all heck would break loose.
Now they have mine. Bolsa didn't fix it right. The barrel doesn't lock down all the way, and the resulting seam in the feed ramp hangs up most rounds being chambered. It came on must suddenly.0 -
