Rem 870 'factory?' fold stock; value of

I have got a stock that, I believe, was a factory option for law enforcement sales. It is heavy stamped metal and folds over the top. I have not seen anything like it on GB or at gun shows. This is not a flimsy metal tube or plastic stock.

Anyone familiar with what I describe? What is a good start asking price (I will not do a 'Reserve' auction)?

    Had one years back ( 1970's ) on a 870. Although they were supposedly for "Police Use" only, they were available at the local gun shows. Going price "Back Then" $39 - $49.

    They looked "Bad" on the 870, but were impracticable. When you shot it with the stock extended, the steel strut that attached the folding butt to the stock, would knock you stupid. Doubt if they stayed in production.

    You'll see them anywhere from $70-140. They can be found in that range, depending on condition and current demand.

    AND...Though they are marked, "For Law Enforcement Only," they are not illegal to possess or use, unless you have some state or local law against them. That marking was a marketing ploy.

    The stock will sell if you list it here on Gunbroker.

    The second most useless thing in the world is a shotgun with a folding stock. The most useless thing is a shotgun with no stock at all. Remington doesn't list them on their site so I'm guessing they stopped making them. Seems to me the assorted pins broke a lot.

    Thanks guys. A lot of insight on this now.

    I agree with Sunray's assessment of a folding stock.

    However, one of those 'shortened' stocks (I think 1 3/4 to 2") or a collapsible like the new USMC Benelli CAN be useful.
    It is quick to the shoulder without hanging up and can be tucked under the arm for 'over the barrel' firing.

    I think Bushmaster and Wilson both sell these.

    Well, thanks to Nunn's input I'll be unloading this puppy.
