corrosive ammo

Maybe a stupid question but if you fire corrosive ammo and then soon after clean the bore properly will there still be corrosion?

    Can someone run through how to clean a rifle after using corrosive ammo? I was told just to run a rag with ammonia (ie, use a windex-type solvent) and clean as normal. Is it this easy? Thanks.

    Hot water (this is what desolves the orossive salts from the primer), followed by regular powder/copper solvents and a lightly oiled patch.
    Be sure to clean everywhere the powder gas can get to, espicaly on the Garands gas system.

    Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.

    I put some warm water with a little dish soap in a saucepan on the floor. Remove the bolt. Put the muzzle in the pan. Put a patch on the rod, and run it down from the breech all the way to the muzzle. Draw it back up and you are filling the bore with soapy water.
    Stop just before you get the patch into the receiver.
    Do this 8 or ten times and the corrosive salts will be gone. Then go on as recommended above.
    This is how the Marines cleaned their guns in WW2 when GI ammo was corrosive.

    I would also suggest cleaning the gas cylinder.

    Cornflk1, I am also a new member. For deep cleaning, especially for corrosive powder I recommend starting by #1 scrub barrel and chamber with a cleaner called simple green two times, #2 wash with hot soapy water, rinse and dry, #3 use break free extractor and lubricant this will help clean the pores of the steel as well as prevent further absorbtion of harmful substances. (Break Free has a graphite base and continues to impregnate the steel in your firearm with lubricants.) Hope this is helpful[:)]

    I'm a windex person myself. When I use corrisive [or suspected corrisive], I clean completly with windex, the go back with normal cleaning stuff,[ Blue Wonder, Hoppes, Break Free, etc]. You just need water and some sort of detergant/surfactent to disolve the corrisive salts. Some will claim that the old, orginal GI bore cleaner will do the trick, but I'm just not trusting that. The old standby is boiling water poured down the bore, just like cleaning up after black powder.
