Need info-pistol grip shotgun????
A friend showed me something I hadn't seen before. Interesting!! His dad gave it to him and he has no other info. It looks like a pisol, 141/2" barrel with front bead sight, thumb grip hammer, small wood foregrip, wood pistol grips. On the left rear of brl. it has word choke then 1/2 of a visible triangle with what appears to be a quail inside with .F then a cicle PN. Top rear of brl. it says 36 Cal. then the trianle with enclosed quail. Below triange th word MARCAREG. Left side reciver has a push button which drops open the barrel. With it open the #55 shows on left side of lower barrel locking mech. Serial # on bottom of action forward of trigger gaurd is a possible A stamped over with a 1 which could be A7143 or Al7l43. Bottom of the pistol grips has a plastic buttplate which has the triangle with the quail but has IND. on the left up leg and BRAS. on the oppisite down leg with MARCA REG. below. Independent of that is AMADEO ROSSI & CIA. Then S. LEOPOLDO R.G.S. Thanks for any input.

Your discription isn't clear? Pictures would be better. If it is .36 caliber, the only cartridge that will work is the old 9mm Flobert, rimfire shotshell cartridge.
The only point I can make re your description?, is that if the barrel is 14 1/2" Long and it's smothbored, i.e. NO RIFLEING IN BARREL, your friend is in possession of a sawed off shotgun.
He better get rid of it, before he gets a early morning wake up call from the JBT's.

Did I miss something? Did you say it was a smoothbore barrel? The title said shotgun, but you didn't mention that it was a smoothbore. If it is a smoothbore and it is not registered, THEN it is illegal. If it is registered then it is no problem. If it is not registered, it can never be registered. Either cut it up in small pieces and throw them into seperate garbages all around town, or just bring it to your local police or sheriff and ask them to dispose of it properly. 0 -

Info was not what I was expecting but it is still interesting. This is not an altered piece. It is a factory production older piece. Maybe not antique but pretty old. If it were smoothbore would it still be illegal? Still would like to have history, year of mfg., number made etc.. What do those initials stand for? 0 -

"YES" IF IT'S SMOOTHBORED IT'S ILLEGAL!
Can't answer your other questions, re History, DOM, Initials etc.
Many years ago at a gunshow I saw a similar piece, to the one you describe, it was in 14 Gauge. The guy who was selling it was trying to palm it off as a "Flare Pistol". I knew better and so did he. Since Rossi was a well known Brazilian manufacturer of firearms, I presume these type of shotpistols were legal in Brazil at one time, as they were in the U S.0
