Pyrodex or 777 for muzzleloader ?

Trying to decide which propellant to use in my brand new muzzleloader. i will be using pellets for sure, but is the 777 that much better and easier to clean?

    I use Triple 7 and the stuff is fantastic..... cleans up with just water. You can't go wrong with using 777.

    When I am at the range, I will run a spit patch between each round and then a dry patch before loading the next. When you get home, just pull the breach and clean it and the threads of the plug area real good with some water and a brush, lube and oil and before replacing just run some wet patches through the barrel, dry, lightly oil with Rem Oil. Put the gun away until next time. Before you use the next time, just fire a primer off in the gun to burn off any oil around the breach plug area (point toward the ground) and your ready to roll. A complete cleaning only takes me maybe 10 minutes tops. Just rememeber to run the spit/dry patches between each round and this will help seat each and every bullet exactly the same everytime. No need for bore butter.... I found that using bore butter will bake instead the barrel and makes cleaning the gun much more difficult.

    I have a T/C Omega, I use American Pioner. This stuff only takes only seconds to clean up. About 3 pases with a patch and your done. This powder use to be called Clean Shot, American Pioner is the same stuff.

    I highly recommend 777 and have been using it since the year it was introduced, I would recommend loose powder, however. Pellets seem to be the answer to get people started, but most experienced shooters eventually go to loose powder for a number of reasons, including cost, and the ability to taylor a load. The only extras needed for loose powder is a powder measure and perhaps a powder flask. These Items quickly pay for themselves.

    Why not use straight black powder? You have to clean anyway and it is not that much different to clean for BP than for any of the substitutes....soap and water will do the job. Plus, it is less expensive. Guess I am just more of a traditionalist, I like shooting black!! Emery
