replacing barrel on revolver

I am looking for a reputable pistol smith, that maybe
some of the members on the forum have dealt with, to
replace my colt trooper barrel. My local gunsmith does
no barrel work on pistols. He will do a trigger job and
some scope mounting but that is all..

I would like to keep the cost between 50 to 70 dollars
if possible.

    A gunsmith who can't change a revolver barrel? This is not someone who I would trust to work on any of my guns (unless I needed work done on my Lorcin).

    If you tell us where you live, someone might be able to recommend a local gunsmith. If you have to ship it to anyone for this work, you will need to use UPS or FEDEX Next Day Air, which can cost $40-50 each way.

    I think that statements like yours need to cleaned up just a bit.

    Some 'smiths just don't do certain types of work. They specialize and manage to stay very busy (and some actually making money) doing what they really enjoy and don't have to take in everything that walks in the door. Besides, if a 'smith invests in all of the tooling required for removing pistol barrels and only does this once or twice a year, he has wasted a bunch of money. The margin of profit for gunsmiths is too small to waste it on little used tooling. It's better to refer the customer to another 'smith.

    A good gunsmith won't work on Lorcins. They tell you to dispose of them properly and safely, because they are junk.

    I live in the northern part of wisconsin...I would like to get
    someone local that I could drive to, however the other smiths that
    I know , I have not had decent feedback from customers that have used
    their services... That is why I posted to the forum for suggestions...

    I would ship via usps, I am licensed to do that...would be able to ship for under $20.00...

    I highly recommend Rusk Gun Shop in Madison. They've been in business for over 50 years and can handle any gunsmithing job. Their # is 608 437-5353.

    I'd also suggest asking to be sure they have a (correct) frame wrench for your Trooper before handing them your gun. If they tell you they can use a piece of a 2X4, call another shop on the list. (That's a good way to warp the frame.)[V]
