Can the 30 be loaded with havery bullets and go sub-sonic? 0 -
yes but may not cycle an automatic. A Long time ago I loaded some with 150 grain soft nose. They would fire but not cycle in a carbine. Worked well in my ruger singel action. It was just an experiment. [8D]

You are going to be playing on the ticklish side of getting it out the end of that "18 barrel is my first thought. As mentioned earlier, it will likely not cycle the carbine either. Have you read Cartridges of the World over by chance? BArnes lists a number of the "Whisper" (J.D. Jones @ SSK industries)cartridges that seem to be in the same ballpark/ for the same general application I think you are looking for. These are/were originally intended for use in the Thompson/Center guns that use a bit shorter tube. Additionaly there is info on the Barnes 308 x "1 1/2 which is an interesting read also.

The .30 Carbine was designed for 110gr Round Nose Projectiles.....

I've used Remington 125gr bullets with HS7 for silhouette in my Blackhawk with impressive results! Chrono'ed about 1300fps.
Be really careful and study every manual you can find that lists loads for heavier bullets; I read up for 3 weeks before even ordering bullets, and it still took another week of testing before I even got them to go 850fps!
Whatever you decide; do not use lead loads for jacketed bullets! That little extra pressure spike might cost you dearly!
If you know it all; you must have been listening.<br>WEAR EAR PROTECTION!0
