I haven't seen the rifle yet. He says he thinks it is worth $400.00 and that he shot 15 rounds through it before he had decided it was too much rifle for him. Is $400.00 a decent price for a Winchester Mod. 70, ANY Mod. 70, in excellent, like new shape? Thanks for your thoughts!

Winchester now offers 3 actions in the model 70 .The controlled round feed is a pre-64 type action. Sounds like a Black Shadow model and i believe it's offered in all 3 types . I would pass unless it is a controlled round feed [ *pre-64 type ] action . ask about the bolt , if it has an extractor that runs down the side of bolt
similar to a mauser then it's worth the $400.00.

Thinman, thanks for the info. This guy doesn't know enough to know what a mauser type bolt or external extractor even means. He is gonna bring the 7 mag. over for me to check it out tomorrow. My main confusion was that on Winchester's web page, I would see a synthetic stock on a stainless gun, or a flat black gun with a camo stock, but I couldn't match up the combination of factors I'm looking at here. Hopefully, I'll know more tomorrow. I appreciate all the help. Barry L.

To THINMAN: The Win. Model 70 I was thinking of getting yesterday was as you thought. It is a Black Shadow and does have the "controlled round feed" you spoke of. The rifle is AS NEW and I got it for $300.00, so I think I did pretty good on it. Thanks again for your input! Barry
