DPMS 308 ???

Hello all,

Thinking about picking up a semi-auto 308 and DPMS's recient additon seems nice.

Could any owners or shooters comment on trigger, reliability, and most important accuracy (factory ammo) for a baseline.

    I own one, but have yet to shoot it. I'm waiting on a Leupold Mark4 4.5-14 to come in. I own the 308-LR with the 24" stainless bull barrel, and the fit and finish is immaculate. You might want to look at the magazine racks and see if they still have I think it was last months issues of Special Weapons for Military and Police, as well as the big copy of Shotgun News. Shotgun News had a great article on the Panther 308, and a good cover shot of it. All articles I've read have cited accuracy with varying 168gr match ammunition in well under 1" groups, with I think Sierra coming in at a best group of under .5" at 100yds in one article (I think that article was in American Rifleman a couple months back).

    The only concerning flaw I've read about is the magazines. I've read they can warp if in high heat environments too long and tend to have feed problems. Your alternative for that would be finding some metal SR-25 magazines, but they're expensive. I've found them for around $125 a pop for 5 and 10rd mags, and over $200 for 20rd mags, although I don't see much need for a 20rd mag in the Panther 308.

    It's a heavy beast, but very well built. IIRC, the standard trigger has a 5lb pull, but you can have DPMS change it with a JP adjustable trigger, which would be your best bet.

    I should be taking mine out finally sometime next month for break-in, and I can give you more information about how it feels then.

    I appreciate the info. I will look for the articles you mentioned and review. Thanks for the heads up on the mags as well.

    I would be interested in your shooting report and hope the expectations that the articles set are met. It may just cause me to reshuffle the safe for just one more.
