S&W Model 57 .41 Magnum - Mfg date

I'll be receiving my S&W Model 57 .41 magnum in a few days and I need to pin down the year it was manufactured for Maryland's paperwork.

S/N is N3685xx

I know it was made between 1969 and 1982. Can anyone help me with the actual year on this s/n?

  S/N range of N190001 to N430000 is 1975-1977 so w/ the number you've supplied late 1976 would be a reasonable guess.
  
  To get a more precise dating you will need to contact S&W for a factory letter ont he pistol ... cost is $30 and it is a nice piece of documentation to have for an older "favorite" pistol.
