contact your state dept. it defers from state to state. are you carring it concealed? are you trained in the use of a colaspable baton and certified? this is the criteria in most states. im a certified , high security agent, and i still hve to show paperwork, depending on the state ,i work in!!! because you can buy one , does not say you can carry one legally!!! be very cautious and be knowlegable about your state laws!!! if it is carried in the wrong manner, by the wrong person , and used in the wrong situation, someone will be prosicuted!!!!

Hatchettman is right, you have to do your own research in WI.

However, I doubt that you will get a satisfactory answer. At the request of a friend, I researched the same thing in my own state & got a bunch of double-talk from every agency. We have no specific prohibition against carrying an ASP, but no one is willing to say that you CAN carry one. You MIGHT be able to carry one, you MIGHT be able to legally use one, you MIGHT be able to avoid arrest, you MIGHT be able to avoid prosecution, & you MIGHT be able to avoid jail. The consequences are unpredictable.

Some localities & LEO's consider carrying some items criminal, even though you may consider them defensive; e.g., in the District of Columbia you will be arrested if you are found to be carrying MACE.

My opinion is that if you carry an ASP, you do so at your own (considerable) risk. While effective in the hands of someone who has been professionally trained, they are of little value to those who have not been. Personally, I avoid any weapon that requires me to get within arms length of a perp.

It varies state to state, but in Texas it is considered a 'billy club.' I carried one in my vehicle for quite some time until I had to actually use it on someone, and the officer taking the report afterwards explained the legality of it in Texas. I imagine it's probably the same situation where you are, but check your laws or maybe even call the manufacturer. They might be able to tell you if it is legal in your state.
