Help with a Sako
I just recently acquired a new Sako bolt action rifle. It is a 7mm Remington Mag. I belive the serial number to be SAKO AV 647375. It also came with a Leupold 3x9 Vari-X II, 40 mm objective. I gave $750 for the whole deal, which I beleive was a good deal. Now I just want to get some info on age and true value, as well as the model so I can get the owner's manual through Sako. The Sako and Beraetta websites were no help in ID'ing this gun.
Thanks,
Ken

According to my reference, Sako started producing rifles ( L-61 ) chambered for the 7mm Rem. Mag. in the mid 60's.
Best thing would be to post some quality pictures and give specific physical characteristics of your rifle. Perhaps one of our members would be able to identify it?

I'm sure a real expert will come along and give you the exact scoop. If it is a Finnish Sako I believe the long-actions were the Finnbear model. I have a 72 short-action in .243 that is one of the finest shooting rifles that I have ever had. 0 -
ken, try a little research on the Sako Collector's Club site. A very recent post there had some info on S/N's and date of manufacture.
Good luck,

Ken,
What you have is a rifle made on the excellant Sako AV or long action. Sako made three action lengths, AV (long), A2 (medium), and A1 (short). Judging by your serial # and the serial # of my AV in .270 I would estimate your rifle was made in the mid to late eighties.
The Sako Collectors Club, of which I am a member, does not have production information on the "A" action series, only the older L61, 579, and 461 series. We have been trying to get "A" series production information for years.
Good luck with your rifle, it should be a good shooter.0 -
