S&W Model 645

Hi guys,
I have an S&W model 645 in 45ACP, stainless, and I love it. It shoots great, is damn near bulletproof, and I can take it out in the rain without worry. The only draw back that I have come up with, no supply of magazines for it. Of course the mags are stainless as well, and when I ask about them at gun shows, etc. I get looks like I'm crazy.
Nobody has any idea what a model 645 is, or where to obtain new mags for it! Can you experts help in figureing out where I can buy new mags for this gun?

    Hey guys, another question I'm trying to answer, and not having much luck;
    I have an S&W model 645 45 ACP semi auto pistol, and I am trying to buy another magazine for it. It is no longer listed on S&W's web page, but I think they relisted it as another model, as far as parts and accessories goes.
    I have written to S&W, but so far no response, so I thought I would try the stand by experts. Do any of you guys know what pistol I am looking for, or am I out of luck?

    Very confusing situation regarding your pistol. The S & W book notes that it was the first .45 ACP pistol, marketed by S & W. Also that it takes a (8) shot single stack magazine. They DON'T say if this is the SAME (8) shot magazine, that later produced S & W .45 Auto pistols, also used?

    Magazines for your pistol will be easy to locate, look for 4506 mags.

    I am surprised that you did not check the Smith & Wesson web site. Model 645 magazines are listed there and can be bought directly from Smith. Here is the link:

    The difference between the 4506 and 645 magazines is the 645 has a flat steel base where the 4506's base is (near indestructable) plastic that protudes about 3/16". Personally, I like the 645 mag the best, but it's only my preference. One is as good as the other.

    Thanks too all, I think I have it figured out. My magazine is indeed an 8 shot, single stack mag, and according to S&W on the sight that judgeColt supplied solved my problem, using the 4506 mag. I never even gave a thought to the S&W sight, being that it is easier to ask the "Experts" on a sight that I am more familiar with.
    And thanks nmyers for your link as well, I will try them all, and let you know which gives the best service![;)]

    1ab mentions the physical difference in original Model 645 magazines from later Model 4506 magazines. Whether you like the flat metal floorplate or the plastic floorplate is a matter of personal preference. I would note that the original metal floorplates on my early Model 645 had edges sharp enough to cut. I had to smooth them up to avoid bloodshed everytime I used it! When the Model 4506 magazines became available, I bought several and have retired the original magazines for future collector purposes.

    The only place to find original Model 645 magazines would be on the used market since Smith no longer sells them. The current magazines for the Model 4506 and related pistols supposedly have the latest improvements to make them the most reliable of all.
