I soon expect to have some extra cash, about $500. It is already burning a hole in my pocket. I want to buy a handgun. I have owned about 40 over the years and still have a few. But I don't know what to get next. I want something I can shoot and ammo cost is an issue. I also want something that I can tell my wife is an "investment". Right now I am thinking about a revolver, maybe a Dan Wesson in 357 or a quality 22. I am also considering a cap-and-ball replica. That would solve the ammo problem. I like something some what off beat.
    HELP.

Cheepest AR is around 500 retail, you can build your own maybe for less but I would doubt it hightly you would really have to get some deals on parts.

I can tell you I love my Saiga (mine is 7.62x39)--if I were looking for something inexpensive in .223 I would consider the Saiga chambered in that round. I'd also want to consider the Kel-Tec SU-16--although it's about double the cost of the Saiga.

The Saiga is a great gun for the price . The Mini is cool also because you can really "trick" it out with after market accessories. Limited budget says SAIGA all the way though.

God gave us all a gift. Have you found yours yet ?

Tried and true Kalashnikov action tells me that you would have a hard time beating the Saiga in terms of bang for the buck, but I would not expect the kind of accuracy that one gets from a good AR type rifle. I would exclude the Mini-14 unless you are loking for a tough as nails "truck gun". By the time you dump the amount of money into a Mini-14 that's required to get AR type accuracy, you could have bought a decent AR, and still spent twice the money you would have on the Saiga.

Dont waste your time on the mini's. Go with an AR type, visit ar15.com to get educated on the AR's then do a smart search on GB and go back 90 days to see what has sold and for how much. You can also view the "equipment exchange" on ar15.com for new/used ar's. Be patient and you will probably find a good deal here on GB.
