    I always used the old method of filling the case 7/8 full and pack it tight with the tip. No air trapped and damn good results.

    Its really hard to soar with the Eagles, when you are stuck with turkeys!

    One caveat. You MUST fill the case. Either a full caseful of BP or if you wish a light load, use 1/2 to 3/4 BP and top with a filler; cream of wheat or kapok,

    I generally load with Pyrodex instead of black powder as it is safer. You get similar results without the chance of it blowing up. If you must use BP, use non-sparking tools such as a brass powder measure.

    Agree with all above, especially the full case part and non spark tools. Also remember that you will likely have to pull the gun down and clean everything with hot soapy water to avoid the corrosion. Also there will be a lot more chamber fouling. There was a very good reason the ol' timers jumped to smokeless so quickly.
