I havent found those patent dates yet, will keep looking. The receiver pattern is typical of Crescent/H&A, as is the hinge-pin takedown although the lever is typically on the other side of the frame.

    steve i saw your pic. its looks like an attachment point for a sight assy. when not used, it appears it use to be covered with a flip lid. or........its a sling attachment point. look on the bbl for signs of a forward clamp attachment that was somewhere on the the bore. just my stab at it.
