ID Help for BigBarn's Museum Proj. - Last 2 pcs.
Following are images of the last 2 pieces that BigBarn has sent to me.
The first 3 are of a piece that he says has no markings, but appears to be a 410ga SxS. I've sent a followup to William asking if he checked under the forend and also if he inspected the bores to see if they might be rifled. The reason for the latter is that the rear sight appears to be more of a rifle sight, and the trigger detail while being hard to see, appears to be a set trigger; but heck this is not my forte' and I'm really guessing.
The next 3 images are of what I believe (thanks to a recent forum crash course on early Mauser rifles) is an 1871 Mauser that has been seriously customized/sporterized. Information provided with the images is: "The single shot bolt rifle has stamped on the barrel='F.v. Dreyse Sommerda' and a serial number of 21299. That is all the markings I can find on this rifle".
As with previous posts in addition to identifying the make/model any background/historical info. that can be provided would be sincerely appreciated.
If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!

Contenderman was right! The first sxs is indeed a rifle, that had so much rust and crud in the bore, I could not see the riflings. I did tear it down, and found no markings at all, anywhere on this peice. It does have beautiful scroll work all over, tho. The only other thing I did was measure the bore diamiter, which came out to .34, and the chamber diamiter measured .35.
I don't know if this helps at all, but I thought it might help in figuring out what caliber it is. It also does have a set trigger on it, and it opens with a side swinging lever under the trigger guard.
