Gunsmith in the Richmond, VA area

Can anyone suggest a gunsmith in the Richmond area? I have a High Standard Supermatic Citation that needs some work...don't want to go thru the hassle and expense of shipping to factory. Also, I need some firearms appraised for a new homeowner's policy.
Any advise would be appreciated.

    BOBSKI I try to help all the Va. bullseye shooters and have lots of HIGH STANDARD vintage parts but because of the liabilty reasons I don't advertise the fact I leave it to people that have insurence if you know what I mean. If BIG BORE 45/70 showes up at the match this SUNDAY at CAVALIER I will take a look at his pistol. Karl

    bobski, perryshooter, and v35...thanks for the info. I apologize for not responding sooner, but just got back in town. The story on the High Standard is that I got it several weeks ago from the relative of a deceased military/Camp Perry marksman. The pistol was in the old gentleman's range box (along with his Colt, Officers Model, Match .38). I now have both.

    The bad news is that both pistols had received no care for about 20 years. The old guy took great care of his gear, but the shooters box had sat in a closet since the early 80's. It was no problem getting the Colt back in shape. Aside from a little holster wear around the muzzle, it is in fine shape. Years ago, someone did an excellent trigger job on that revolver.

    The High Standard took a lot of work. I now have everything in good working order except for a trigger/sear problem. When the slide is retracted,the hammer engages the sear correctly. Pulling the trigger will disengage the hammer. The problem is that the trigger does not return to it's set position and therefore won't engage the sear unless I manually pull the trigger forward. This problem is not due to the sear adjustment screw, and the sear spring seems plenty strong. I am thinking that the trigger pin might be the problem, but the design of the receiver won't allow any visual inspection of the trigger assembly...so, I don't know what I'm dealing with here.

    Do you guys have any suggestions on what else I can check? Has anyone ever pushed/replaced the trigger pin on these pistols?

    corrosion has caused the trigger metal to expand around the trigger pin. knock the pin out, clean and polish the trigger shaft around the pivot point, reinstall. clean and lube the pin as it goes in. that will do it. Q: what model is the gun? if its a trophy, the trigger is gold plated and the plating is what corroded. if its a citation or less, its a case colored trigger.

    btw...ive done this to hundreds of friends old hi std guns that have sat too long. its not hard to do. matter of fact, i checked my victor last week and found the trigger doing exactly what you mentioned. all i did was remove clean and replace and it was fine. the problem occurs more frequently with gold plated triggers and east hartford guns. keep me posted on your progress. and watch out for those little flat springs and parts flying around when you take that plate off!

    The pistol is a citation model, and the trigger is case colored. Please bear with these next three questions: 1. does the side plate have to be removed in order to work on and replace the trigger?; 2. can the same trigger pin be reused?; 3. if the pin and/or trigger shaft are badly rusted, do you advise cold bluing?

    I really appreciate your help in all this.

    unrelated question...do the original magazines for this pistol have light-green colored followers and case colored floor plates?

    i now see your org. post that said citation. ok, what bbl does your citation have? that will determine value. do the following. 1. remove bbl. 2. remove slide. 3. drop mag. 4. drop/'trip' the hammer with your thumb finger holding it back. let it down easily so it doesnt snap forward and damage the frame. 6. remove left grip only. now we are ready. next, you can reuse the same trigger pin.(pn:10530) just make sure you take it out in the right direction. its tapered to fit. look for factory marks where it was pushed. also too, a clue is the beveled end is the point. the flat end is where it was pushed. put in from the left, knock out from the right,w/ bbl facing away from you. your trigger works off a sear transfer bar.(pn:10911) you must remove the cover plate,(pn:10485/1046,) the safety, (pn:10402,) then the sear bar. there is where you nee to catch that little v shaped flat spring.(pn:10461) SEE IF THATS THE PROBLEM. if its missing, there wont be any tension on the bar to return the trigger to set position. 99% of tinkerers dont see it when they do trigger work and it flies off. its as small as a sliver. the safety sits over it. once you remove the safety, look for it in place, crammed in the cavity along side the sear bar. see it? if not, thats the problem. if its there, remove it with a tweezer and hold your finger over it. pop it out. then, use the same tweezer and remove the sear bar, pulling up and out of the trigger hole. it may take some time. it must come out just right and perfectly straight. with that done, your trigger is free floating on its pin.(pn:10530) knock it out and viola, trigger comes out. you may have to spin the trigger for it to fall out. not pull it like firing, twist it on its axis. clean polish and replace in same order. get to work...soldier! you have 5 minutes! [;)]

    light green colored mags followers are correct for your gun. blued mag body if its a 103/104 is right, mag body in the white for 102 is right. which is yours? its says on the slide, right side. btw...do not blue the trigger. just polish, clean, and replace.

    I am in your debt.
    Regarding your questions: it is model 107, Military, and barrel length is 5.5 inches.
    I will be out of town until this weekend, and will get to work on it then. I will keep you posted on the results.
