    hey folks,
    looking for contact information for someone who works on air rifles. i have used someone named vince before in niagra falls,ny. but lost his information.

    You might try Cabela's catalog or their website http://cabelas.com where they list various air guns. I have a Benjamin air rifle for BBs, smooth bore and a Benjamin pellet pistol, both over 60 years old that still shoot fine. They pump up the air and don't have the spring recoil. Modern Benjamins seem to be made in the same way, more or less. They are in the lower price range and have been in biz a long time. Hope this helps.

    The Benjamin .177 cal. is the one i've had for quite a few years. Its a great pellet rifle and what i consider to be pretty high quality for just over $100. With 8 pumps and a good flathead pellet(somewhere around 850 fps), it will kill just about any small game you may go after. It is also very accurate. It did anything, and everything I wanted in a pellet rifle. You can probably check one out at your local sporting goods store.

    After reading your helpful informantion, and looking around on the net, I have a question, with the type of air rifle I have, can the spring be adjusted so it's not so wild?

    Probably not. Yours sounds like a single stroke pneumatic. Cocking it moves a rather large piston to the rear. Pulling the trigger releases the piston to push the air ahead of it and compress it. The rather violent forward recoil tends to wreck scopes unless you get one that is rated for such an air rifle.

    You need to go to www.Straightshooters.com. They have a knowledgable chat room, and plenty of answers to all of your airgun questions.
    Air rifles are great weapons. You'll find that once your hooked, you shoot them more than any centerfire you own.

    Spring type air guns are very sensitive to "hold". You have to hold the gun the same way every time you shoot because of the spring jolt when you shoot. If you hold different you will get a different point of impact. When you can master holding the gun the same each time you can get pretty good accuracy. In addition to my Benjamins (above) I have a cheap Chinese side lever that still shoots good after about 1500 shots. Even so, if I fail to consciously give attention to how I hold it, I will probably miss. Hope this helps.

    I too have one of the cheap chinese rifles available here and another site. Usually about 35-50 bucks. Mine is spot on accurate. I have a small backyard with rabbits at epidemic proportions. Up to the usual 30 yards or so it is awesome. I think it is around 800fps and does the job very well. Don't have any of the problems you have. Here is one like it
