Back in 1963 I purchased a 300 H&H which was a real tack driver. Most accurate I've ever owned. Three friends also bought the 300 but not all winchesters. All three eventually had them chamberd to the 300 weatherby.My question, Was this a common practice or was it just common in my circle? I still have it as a 300 H&H.

    Is pre 64 meaning winchester model 70 only? I have even seen other brands advertised as pre 64. Thanks

    THIS WAS COMMON IN THE WEST TO HAVE THE OLD 300H&H RECHAMBERED TO THE WEATHERBY. CHEAPEST WAY TO GET A WEATHERBY. OF COURSE THIS WAS IN THE OLDEN DAYS BEFORE WE KNEW THE PRE 64 WAS GOING TO GO UP IN PRICE AND BECOME SUCH A COLLECTOR PIECE. YOU COULD BUY A MODEL 70 NEW FOR 125.00. WISH I HAD BOUGHT A TRAIN LOAD OF THEM. I ALSO HAD A 300 H&H THAT WAS THE FINEST SHOOTING RIFLE I HAVE OWN TO THIS DAY. GOOD LUCK XBEAR

    In the 1950's and 60's, the Weatherby cartridges were really being hyped as THE chamberings for long-range big-game hunting. Many, many .300 H&H rifles were rechambered to the Weatherby cartridge (and countless .300 Magnum wildcats - see PO Ackley's book).
