Winchester Model 12 Poly choke
I grew up with this gun and mechanically it's in excellent shape....I know very little about shotguns and would like to know it's approximate value...I'm thinking about taking it to my gunsmith and having it re-blued and the wood refinished, etc. back as close to it's original condition.I don't want to go to alot of expense if it's not worth much...All I know, it still shoots as smooth and sweet as the day my dad gave it to me back in the sixties..

In my own opinion, it should be left just as it is. I seriously doubt that a quality refinish job can be done for less money then the gun is monetarily worth on the open market, and refinishing it will not add a single dime to the value... which means that whatever amount you spend on it, is gone. Guns that are used and show it have character, and that is a good thing. The Polychoke is unfortuantely most likely not original to the gun, and as such, it was ruined the "collectability" of it.

Good afternoon Stuart. Winchester did offer Poly Chokes as an option. Look at the barrel closely, near the receiver, on the barrel you should see "Model 12 12 ga 2 3/4 Chamber" below that there may be a choke designation such as: FULL or MOD or IMP CYL. If those are not on the barrel, then it is a Factory Poly Choke, which is the most desireable of MD 12s with Poly Chokes and certainly worth more. How ever if there is a choke stamped on the barrel, it's not worth the cost of refinishing. It's just a shooter. Let us know if there is a choke marking on the barrel, along with the gauge.
