Savage o/u .22/20 ga.
I have a Savage Model 24H-DL, .22 LR/20 ga. 3". I cannot locate the SN on it. I picked it up over 30 years ago. Question: It has 18 1/4 inch barrels. Was this a factory model or has it been modified? Is it worth anything? If modied, it was professionally done. This has been a great camping gun and is in great shape.

i cann't tell you if it has been shortened, but if it has mgf. before 1968 it didn't have a ser.#. 0 -
i am at the shop, so i pulled one off the rack to double check. the SER# is on the left side of the reciever, above and forward of the trigger gaurd.
this is a SAVAGE MODEL 24F .22RF / 20 GAUGE O/U COMBO with a black synthetic stock.
like MIKE says, it may not have been SER#`D when it was produced (pre-1968).

while i am not a SAVAGE COMBO GUN expert, i have checked about 10 differant referance works, and have come up with 4 BBL lengths listed over the course of production, encompassing all listed models.
18 1/2" BBL
20" BBL
23 1/2" BBL
24" BBL
i would place even odds on this list being innacuratte, incomplete, or open for dispute.
i just do not seem to have any good scource material on this piece, or own one myself. RUFE SNOW can probably supply a link, URL, or email adress that has a complete listing. he digs them up from god only knows were to help us out.

Thanks again Mike. If there was an 18 1/2 factory barrel, that is probably what mine is. It measures between 18 1/4 and 18 1/2. It has engraving of a running fox on one side of the receiver and a grouse on the other. Also has sling swivels. Seems like the person that I got it from years ago said it was a camper or trapper model. 0 -

I have more than 20 of the Stevens/Savage combo guns, and all have 24-inch barrels except what was called the Camper Special, which has an 18-inch barrel (could be 18-1/4). Your 24 H-DL with a game scene suggests it is a Deluxe, and I'm not sure whether the Camper came in a Deluxe. Is it possible someone could have put a Camper barrel on a Deluxe frame? Some of the Model 24 barrels will interchange. Check out the site below for further information and resources:

I too have several of these in different calibers. I've seen several lengths, lots of folks have had them cut down for convenience. Still neat little guns, although I prefer the older models which aren't as heavy. 0
