ESSEX ENHANCED SLIDE - ANY GOOD ?

I am a little new to 1911's . I have a Remington rand 1911a1 frame. The frame has some light pitting and has been reparked. So I to use it to build a competition gun. I am buying a storm lake enhanced barrel. Is this slide any good ? If so what rear site is recommended. Bomar or novak ? thanks for any info. Mike

    Brownells carries both their slides and frames, in their Gunsmith catalog. With Brownells reputation and the way they guarantee their parts, I wouldn't have any doubts about buying that Essex slide.

    I put a Bo-mar on my Glock, and have been very happy with it.

    I have a 1911 with essex slide and som NM parts that my dad taught me to shoot with 30 something years ago. It has a Kensight adjustable rear sight. Still shoots match grade groups.

    Hello BOMAR is the best KENSIGHT is also very good but hard to find .Essex slides run from very good to so so THEY are hard enough but some times crack when you try to squeeze them to make them fit GI frame and some times the extractor hole is drilled slightly off.

    I just got a colt 1911 US Army slide from a friend . Some nuckle head had installed an after market sight and the dove tail is slightly larger that the standard USGI. Is it easy to install a bomar oversize in it and do I have to change the front site also ?

    Don't know about the Essex slide (I'm kind of hoping someone with ACTUAL EXPERIENCE with one of the new enhanced slides chimes in). As far as rear sights, for competition, Bo-mars are better. Novaks aren't click adjustable and more for those who plan on carrying concealed.

    If you change the rear sight to a BOMAR or other adjustable sight you will have to change the front sight and they are STAKED into the slide Brownell sells the tool to do this.

    Can anyone recommend a 1911 gun smith in the Chicago area ! I may go all out and want it done right .
