Shipping Pistol by USPS
I know this topic has been talked before, but I don't remember the answers. Can a FFL holder ship a pistol to another FFL holder by US Postal Service? The reason I ask is that I bought a pistol off of GunBroker and the dealer charged me $35.00 for shipping, then he sent it by USPS for $12.25. Was it legal? Thanks

Yep... he sure can. What he charged you has nothing to do with the law.Sounds like you just paid a "Service Charge".He is in business to make a living.

I STILL think this is a litle less than honest, but to each his own. I try to look for sellers that advertise "buyer to pay actual shipping costs" in their shipping instructions...seems to level the playing field a little bit!

If the seller (dealer) stated $35 as shipping charge up front in his listing then there is little room to complain. He can claim his time, the packing materials and the trip to the post office as shipping expenses.
Even those that list "Actual Cost" can turn it back on you by bringing in the variables I mentioned above.
The surest way is to email the seller and ask them for the shipping cost to your zip code and if they come back w/ more than you willing to pay ... then just like the sellers that post a fixed cost up front that seems excessive ... don't buy from them. And if they don't respond to your email, send them a follow up just to make sure that they got the message and if there is no response to that, don't buy from them as there is probably a reason that they are not inclined to tell you the cost.
And, lastly don't take any BS about they can't come up w/ a figure until after the auction, the USPS as well as the other carriers have rate calculators that either buyer or seller can access as long as the shipping weight is known or reasonably estimated.
If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!0 -
Good points, ContenderMan! I feel much the same way. When I said what I did earlier, I did not mean to imply that they should not be charging for the materiels etc...
