45GAP -v- 45ACP
For those that have actually shot both what is your impression (between the two)of:
Felt recoil/recoil management
Accuracy at 25 and 50 yards (service grade pistol to service grade pistol, not 45acp match pistol to service pistol)
Apparent energy (approx. same bullet type and weight)
I did my comparison using Glock pistols, please state the pistols used in your reply.
My impression: Cost of new GAP pistol, GAP ammo that is more expensive, street or field level results indicating virtually the same accuracy and little performance improvement from the GAP over the ACP. Net result "anything" hit with either of these rounds is not going to be able to tell the difference, but your wallet will feel the "impact"[:D]
At the end of the day I'm glad that I used a friends new 45 GAP and only had to pay for the ammo.[;)]

If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!

It seems to me, the .45GAP is the answer to a question that was never asked. 0 -
Mpolans could not have stated it better.I think it is all a plan by gun and ammo makers to entice us to buy more pistols. How many different kinds do we need? That said How many do we want? as many as we can get!!!!!!!!! 0 -
Why do people try to fix things that aren't broken. I personally dont see much purpose for the GAP round other that size and weigtht which is barely noticable. I would never consider buying a gun with the GAP round as I love the good ol ACP. Unless some manufacuter comes out with a one of a kind pistol that revolutionizes the industry, i will never buy into the GAP round. ACP BABY ACP!!
Anybody comes through that door, you put two in the chest and one in the head!0 -
I have never actually shot a .45 GAP pistol (and probably never will, at least one that I own), but after reading a few articles describing them I can see only one advantage....you can have the energy of a 45 in the smaller 9mm frame size. From what I can see, they are also limited to bullets weighing no more than 200 grains, otherwise pressure exceeds maximum specs. Emery

The same thing coulds be said about the 308Win vs the 30-06, or any of the "short mags" vs their standard length counterparts.
In some parts of the world possessation of a gun chambered for the 45ACP (or any other "military" chambering) is a felony, and the 45GAP is well suited for those countries.
If you don't like it, don't buy one.
Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.0 -
Even though I dont care for this round much, i have found in American Rifleman Magazine that Winchester makes a 230grain round. The powder in the GAP cartridge is more powerful and that why the round gets the same performance as ACP round. However, the GAP round will never look or feel like a round that can be called a Slug.

i say we interview the paper target, tin can, and bowling pin. they will be the only ones who will know a difference. oh, and lest we forget, lets ask the 'better mouse trap.'

The new GAP round is significantly different in the length of the case, thus in the size of the hand needed to wrap around the grip. My wife just can't handle the Colt round, but can manage the Glock round. Just that small downsizing of the grip makes the difference. 0 -
Looks like me to the answer to a non-existanct problem. Just to sell
more of "One Kind of" ammo which I bet will quickly fade out. Hopefully.0 -

The GAP is a answer to a problem. The problem being small hands. The gap can be chambered in a smaller gun, verses the acp. If you do do not have problem with larger grip guns, the GAP is useless in all ways. The GAP is no way ever going to replace the acp. 0
