    Model 14-2
The designation Mod adn a two or three digit number followed by a dash and another number designates which engineering change was underway when the gun was manufactured. Hence a Model 14-2 is a Model 14 in its 2nd engineering change. The K means medium frame.

The model 14 is also referred to as the K-38..

38 special, target model blue only disc in 1981. values range from 300 at 100% to 160 at 60%.
with 20 added for the 6 inc barrel single action.

If its the Masterpiece, with adj rear sights, 6 in full lug barrel, combat style Morado wood square butt grips you can add 85.00 to the price...
Info taken from blue book page 1275.

Alan.... The Smith & Wesson catalog indicates your friends model 14-2 was made in 1962. The -2 means they changed the cylinder stop, and deleted the triggerguard screw.

That model was made from 1947 to 1982 with 184 made with 4" barrels in 1965. The model 14 with full underlug barrel was made from 1991 to 1999.
