S&W .38 Model 15-3

Have acquired a S&W 15-3 serial #1K17109 would like age and any info
on this excellent piece. Also, can I get something like bird or field shot to use in it for snakes and other small varmints.

  Dee, Welcome to the forum.
  Your model 15-3 was made in 1970. Your gun will handle .38 spl +p as well as regular .38 spl ammo, however +p ammo is a little harder on the gun.
  
  Snake loads are available in .38 spl but are very short range, 10-15 ft max. The rifling in the barrel causes the shot charge to spin as it leaves the barrel thus it opens up very fast.
