.45 GAP Reloading?

I have not reloaded it but have inspected the rounds. From everything I have heard the .45 GAP is just a shorter .45 ACP.

The same shell holder should work for both. They both use a large pistol primer, and both can shoot the 230 grain ball bullet. Where you need to pay close attention is the type and volume of powder used in the GAP. You will need to find the new data for the GAP round.

It can probably be reloaded with ACP dies, but the overall length being shorter you will need to set the seating die lower to achieve the correct overall length.

If you use a crimper you will need a new one unless you shorten a 45ACP crimper.

According to the magazine articles I have read, the .45 GAP is NOT just a short .45ACP round, it is a newly designed round. It also uses SMALL PISTOL primers. The maximum bullet weight (according to Shooting Times) is 200 grains due to pressure constraints. Emery

Further.....if you're loading it for a Glock, you can't use lead bullets.

Is anyone reloading .45 GAP? What are your thoughts? Any special equipment necessary? hello Padrec ive been loading 45 gap, but i am having loads jam up. im not having much luck here! ive tried loading rayner bullets and factory speer bullets but loads are still jamming. i have no problems with factory rounds. I dont know why, but the glock manual says to not reload for 45 gap.

Because of the small case volume This cartridge is very Un-for-giving when it comes to reloading VERY SMALL increases in powder charges make for VERY LARGE increases in Pressure = KABOOM. IF I ever owned a GAP I for one would NEVER reload for it. I have reloaded and shot over 300,000 rounds of 45ACP. Your Mileage May Vary.

GAP rounds have a thicker case base, so previous posts are correct they are not a cut down ACP casing. I wouldn't reload them either....I've dealt with a GAP KB with factory ammo from an over pressured round...I would be hesitant to try to load that myself. Below are pictures of a Glock 37 that had a catastrophic failure due to an overpressured factory loaded GAP FMJ

Hell I've got 1500 rounds of Winchester GAP ammo taking up room in my ammo room that I wish I could get rid of...including Ranger
