Model 70 .222
I have a chance to pick a nice Winchester Model 70 in .222Rem for around $400 Canadian. To me, the price sounds a little steep. I won't be able to paw the rifle in person to later in the week but I have bought rifles from the same seller before(original owner)and I know he takes very good care of his firearms. I was just just wondering if anyone out there has had much experience with a Model 70 in .222.? The last model 70 I owned was not a great shooter and I've been a bit shy to buy another one. Any input would be much appreciated....Thanks

Ive owned a 222 of some mfg. for the last 40 years or close to it.
Never had a model 70 in this.the 222 is so easy on barrels that I doubt it is worn out.It is also just so so inherently accurate that Id bet on it shooting okay. Ive shot a number of model 70's that were very accurate,you must have gotten a bad one before. On the price $400 American is fine for one in good shape, I dont know the Canadian dollar value to compare it. If you like it and it is in good shape ,buy it ,you will love the caliber.0 -

Winchester introduced the 222 Rem cartridge in the Model 70 Standard Grade rifle in 1965 and discontinued it in 1980. I agree with D.S.Cole that it is a really fine cartridge, and that you must have been real unlucky with your last Model 70. As for the value, $400 CAN $ is a real fair price (it equates to $295 U.S. $).

01DUSE: Judging by the Caliber, .222 Rem. it is a post64 Md70, in a "Standard" or "Light weight Carbine" Grade, (that's the only two Models that came in .222 Rem. according to my book). The last time I checked the exchange rate, (about a month ago) $400 Canadian is about $300. US That gun would have to be in about 95% condition to warrant that price. Hope this helps you. I know of a gun shop selling some brand new Remington Adl's 222 syn for $375. ben 0
