Appropriate Cartridge for S&W Model 10-8
Novice here! How can I tell whether my S&W Model 10-8 38 cal. will take the 38 Special +P cartridge? Don't have an owners manual.
Thanks.

Hello and welcome to the forum.
Model 10-8 in good condition/repair should have no problem w/ +P ammo, but I don't recommend firing a steady diet of them. Of course that's the same recommendation I make for any revolver/pistol and +P or +P+ ammo, or even 357 magnums at tope end loadings. Sure the guns are made to handle it, but if your shooting a lot the milder loads prolong the life of your gun.
I'm sure others will suggest that you crank up the power and keep it there ... and at the end of the day it is your choice.
Lastly if you would like a manual, and/or remain uncomfortable with using the +P ammo, contact S&W they should certainly answer your question about the rating of the 10-8's and you can also arrange to get a manual. Contact info is:
