Star 1911 clone-9mm??
Hey guys, I came accross a Star 9mm clone that looks like it has been used a lot, dinged up on the stocks, but the bluing is in pretty good shape, and over-all it looks like a pretty good shooter.
Being as I have not seen one of these before, and consequently know nothing about them, other than this one was made in Spain, are any of you guys out there familiar with this model pistol? Does anyone know what it would bring on the open market?
Sorry I do not have a serial number for it, the guy that owns it didn't want me to take it down, so that is about all the info I have.

Star made a number of 9mm pistols over the years, that resembled the 1911.

As far as I can tell in looking at the pictures and reading the text, I have a model A. It has no grip saftey, and the saftey that it does have is mounted in the same position as the model 1911. Mine looks identical to the picture of the model A on the sight.
Can anyone give me any idea as too what this pistol might be worth. All I need is a ball park guess, and I know even that is tough with the limited information that I have given. What ever you can come up with is greatly appreciated!

The Model A, was originally chambered for the Spanish Military Cartridge, 9mm Largo. It might also be able to chamber the Colt 38 ACP Cartridge. ( Note this is not the 38 Super! ).
Because of the lack of economical ammunition, it's liable to turn into a Safe Queen,i.e. to expensive to shoot.
From your description, it's in not that great of shape. I wouldn't be putting a lot of money in it. My 2 cents $75 - $175.0 -

the STAR MODEL A and the STAR MODEL B are two of the top 25 combat handguns ever made. noted for there superb design, top notch fit and finish, and an unexplainable superior level of accuracy.
these guns are not your average clone, or cheap knock-off, they are purpose built, well made arms. you can get affordable 9MM LARGO ammunition easily today. even DILLON BLUE PRESS advertises surplus 9MM LARGO at a good price in there monthly publication.
i own a STAR MODEL A (1922 VARIANT) in 9MM LARGO and my father owns SUPER B in 9MM LUGER. both guns are exeptionaly well made, and exhibit a high level of accuracy.
STAR made pistols and carbines up until the early 90`s, and deserve there great reputation.

CCI "Blazer" ammo was the only commercial source for 9mm Largo Ammo that I was aware of, to use in the various Spanish Pistols, Astras, Llamas & Stars. I havn't seen surplus 9mm Largo ammo for sale in a long time.
The Blazer, 9mm Largo is not listed in my current Midway catalog.catalog0 -
SELLIER AND BELLOT manufacture brand new, reloadable 9MM LARGO loaded ammunition. we buy it by the case...
SANTA BARBERA (SB) surplus is stocked by several wholesalers, and some retailors, includind DILLON BLUE PRESS. we bought a case of 20 round packeges of loaded 9MM LARGO from them. a call or email to DILLON to check on availability might be enlightening.
CCI 9MM LARGO is satisfactory for plinking. the cases are not reloadable, and there GOLD DOT HOLLOWPOINT round will not feed correctly or with reliability in STAR MODEL (A / B / SUPER A / SUPER PISTOLS. the FMJ / BALL works fine.
STARLINE and several other suppliers offer the brass for handloaders. occasionaly WINCHESTER does a run of 9MM LARGO, and its available if you know were to look.
i shoot quite a bit of 9MM LARGO, and we have several customers who frequent the shop that own STAR or ASTRA pistols or SPANISH DESTROYER CARBINES chambered in 9MM LARGO. as a consequence, we buy and stock this ammo. surplus availability is hit or miss, but a quick look through SHOTGUN NEWS will gain you a scource. we have purchased the SANTA BARBARA half boxs from 3 different suppliers.
while many retail outlets or small shops may not carry it, or no were to get it, many wholsalers stock it, and we always have some on hand. the brand new S&B (reloadable cased)loaded ammo is superb.
