BLUEING TOUCH UP

What can I use if anything to touch up the blueing on an old colt 1911. I have one made in 1929, and recently in was exposed to a single water drop on top of the slide, needless to say the h20 took the blueing off. So I now have a spot about 1/8 inch in diameter that nees touched up.

I know, how did this happen? I had the gun at my mothers house,and "it was left" laying upside down in the safe.

I am very "happy" about this.....[xx(][xx(][:(!][V]

    there is some touch-up bluing named VANs, i beleive it is made in Ohio, alot of my older gunshow buddies rave about it. i will see if i can get you a leed on it.

    Concur about Blue Wonder. Best such product I've seen in 30 years of fooling with weapons.

    Any man can shoot a gun, and with practice he can draw fast and shoot accurately, but that makes no difference. What counts is how you stand up when somebody is shooting back at you.

    Just so we don't get carried away, I had one good experience with Blue Wonder bluing a shotgun barrel. Several others have been flops. Had several phone calls with BW people plus an eyeball demo by BW rep at local gunshop. Never able to get satisfaction. I depend on Belgian Blue, not perfect but predictable. Blue Wonder cleaner is great. Bought a Luger with a dark barrel the stayed dark despite various cleaners. Gave it a shot of BW cleaner and it took six patches to come clean, with a now fine bore.

    same as rhmc above, i've tried to spot blue with b.w. and have NEVER been able to match colors (not even close). brownells dircrowpan IM is my favorite.

    I haven't had a chance to try Blue Wonder but have experimented with just about every other touch-up blue over the years. I know it's not the popular choice, but I've had my best results with Birchwood Casey's Perma-Blue. Preparation is important, of course, and the intensity and shade of the blue is pretty easily controlled with practice. I even touched up the holster wear on a Python(the ultimate test) and have friends who think it's a different gun. It may not be perfect, but it sure works for me.

    I've not used Blue Wonder for small touch-ups, although several people swear by it. I did use it on a firearm which had been badly rusted with fingerprints and the like over much of the surface. I removed the rust with the cleaner and bronze wool, then followed directions explicitly in applying the blue to the entirety of the metal. Frankly, to my untrained eye, I can't see where the old blue leaves off and the repair areas were except for some slight roughness where the rust had lightly pitted the surface.

    As much as I admire all of Novum's products (take any positive adjective and I would apply it to their entire line), given the circumstances you describe, personally I'd have a professional do it. You want the repair to be invisible in such a piece. OTOH, if this never ran through a 4473, I'd do it myself and pray.
