Hello the best way to match the spring that I think you are talking about. "RECOIL" spring not "MAIN SPRING" is to get an assortment from BROWNELL"S or WOLFF and then decide what load you want to use. The object is for the gun to function with out undue stress. After picking your load start with a heavy spring load one round in the mag and fire the gun if the slide does not stay back "slide stop doesn't have time to enguage notch in slide" reduce spring untill slide stop stays back this means the slide is going all the way back in recoil but not hard enough ro batter the frame. stay away from BUFFERS or other guides with secondary springs . Remember if you change the weight of slide "mounting a red dot sight" you will have to install a lighter spring. too heavy a spring gun malfunctions to light beats up the gun. small lightweight people of which i am one also can use a lighter spring because they dont "BACKUP THE GUN AS WELL" hope this helps
