    Hello if you shoot a flintlock you need to shoot org. BLACK POWDER it is only thing that works WELL. side benefit your wife will love the way her house smells when you clean it in kitchen sink.

    The black powder substitutes (Pyrodex, 777 and Cleanshot) run about 10% higher in performance, in other words if you would normally use 100 gr of BP approx. 90 gr. of substitute should give the same performance.

    Pellets are fine, especially in hunting situations. I've heard some folks say that they don't get the burn from the pellets as they do the loose, but I've not experienced that.

    As mentioned abouve if you are using a flintlock ... stick w/ the black powder as the substitutes don't ignite properly, and using a pre charge of black powder followed by the balance of the load in substitute is, in my opinion, too much messing around.
