MARK CHRIST. / STAINLESS STEEL GARAND RECIEVER???
i am told that CAI (CENTURY ARMS INC.) made a short run of all stainless steel (solid steel) M-1 GARAND recievers. i am told they were going to build a commemorative gun and they used the steel recievers because it would take engraving and special finishes better.
i have here at the shop a GARAND built on one of these recievers. the gent bought it from CAI (thats the story) and built the gun himself. the reciever has an unpolished gold toned finish. its marked on the left of the reciever "M1S23621" / "M-1 RIFLE CAL. 30-06" MADE IN THE USA BY CAI GEORGIA VT".
i have never seen one. it appears that they never finished or engraved the rec. and never built the gun.
whats you opinion??? its got a VAR 1-60 BBL with a TE 2, and a perfect muzzle. the balance is GI parts with a few BERETTA pieces. finish is about 85%, and its better than a "rack grade" gun.
whats the gun worth??? whats the rec. worth??? how many made??? how many finished vs. unfinished??? when made??? HELP ME PLEASE!!!
best regards, mike.

the gun is super tight, with a lot less rattle or play then most GARANDs i have seen. the reciever is GOLD COLORED. not a plating or finish, but as if the metal was treated, like anodized metal. i have to say that i offered the opinion that it was worth more than the normal, crappy modern recievered guns, but less then a "real" GI M-1 GARAND. we are thinking of putting $650.00 on it, with a low end of $575.00 if it does not move right away.
i guess you realy do learn something new every day... i would never have believed it if i had not handled in person...
the DUTCH VAR 1-60 BBL is sweet...
its a new one one me.
best regards, mike.
