norinco m-14 ???

have a chance too buy a norinco m-14 copy.are these any good? what are the general thoughts on this rifle?prob $500 or so.thanks don

    I don't like 'em, but that is a low price for this rifle.

    They were imported in the 1980's. The importer hid his identity; they were sold "as is" -- no warranty, no parts, no US service, no nothing. I might buy a $10 beach umbrella under those terms, but not an expensive rifle.

    In any case, some owners have been quite happy with them. Many others have had to spend many hundreds of $ replacing the soft bolt, soft trigger group, bad op rod, ugly stock, etc. The receiver is forged, unlike most other clones, & is said to be one of the best out there. But, replacing parts like the barrel & bolt require expensive gunsmithing, as they don't just drop in.

    You can buy a Springfield Armory Inc M1A used for < $1,000, & you know that if you have problems they will fix it for free.

    If you buy your furniture from a guy with a truck parked on the side of the road, then maybe you'd be happy with a Norinco.

    I had one. I have to say I liked it but got scared and traded it for a Colt python. I only fired it about 100-200 rds before I sold it. No hiccups or jams or anything. I already had a Springfield so it was easier to part with the Norinco.

    With all due respect for those whose opinions disagree with mine, let me tell you some things.
    1. Fulton has been bad-mouthing these for years, mostly because it is superior to theirs!
    2. Avoid taking advice from those who "heard" it was good/bad. Ask those who own or use them. Mine is just fine, as good as any "standard" model of any manufacturer. It is NOT a target rifle, but shoots better than I can.

    Back in the '80's, when they were first imported, they sold for around $350 to 400 bucks.

    I bought one and never shot it. I sold it awhile back at a pretty good profit, and bought my first CMP Garand. Had a few dollars left over too, to buy some other stuff for the Garand.

    DD: I bought mine used about 3 years ago for around $400. It had an AWFUL looking stock and I replaced it with a USGI that cost me $12 at a show. Probably put 400 - 600 rds thru it without problems. Fired it Thursday with copper washed Chinese ammo (friend gave me a few hundred rds) and got 2" groups from the bench! Not bad for a "standard" model!
    A year ago I solds one like mine to a retired cop .He said it was the most accurate military rifle he has owned.
    Beware the "stamped" locking boss mags. Those with welded boss are fine regardless of source.
