.243 win. load

any one have a pet load they want to share,.....? i bought a new Rem 700 vsl-26"bbl. , i haven't even put the scope on yet , but i do havemy cases all trimed an sized,,,,,.....

confused....but learning

    Since you haven't given us any information to work with except for the cartridge and rifle, I'll start the best way.

    ** Buy at least one good reloading manual, preferably 2 or more so that loads can be referenced against one another.

    ** Start with the beginning loads and work your way up carefully, watching for signs of high pressure.

    ** Use the Audette or ladder method to work up an accurate load.

    I know that this doesn't answer your question about giving you my "pet" loads but my loads work in my rifles and they won't work in yours. You have to develop your own loads, there are no shortcuts. But to try and satisfy your request a bit, here are some loads for your reference:

    As no nonsense said you will have to work up loads that are suited to your rifle. However in my rifle I've found that IMR-4350 works really well for me. I load 85 and 100 grain bullets near max. according to Sierra's manual. In an ultra light rifle these print tiny little 3 shot groups and work wonders on deer and antelope.

    all rifles are individuals as to what works best in each.I do the reloading for our customers in the shop here. the most requested load in this part of the country ( Va.) is the Sierra 85 gr. BTHP and 39 grs. of IMR 4064.This is the load I always try first and most of the time its vey good. Occasionally a rifle will shoot a better group with this bullet and 43 --44 grs of 4350. this is one of the best bullets for the 243. it is the same bullet used in the Federal Premium 85 gr load sold most places. We sell Federal's loading of this 2 to 1 over all others.
    This is classed as a big game bullet not a varmint type by Sierra , It also does a great job on varmints. I have 2 rifles in 243 myself ,I sight them in with this load and then use it for everything year round. If you want to try this ,it is agood place to start. Still a lot of times you have to experiment with several bullets and powders to find the one that is the magic one hole grouper in that rifle. Good luck.

    thank you All this is good info for sure....i guess i should have relayed more info to the threads to start... i have a few years of reloading under the belt, some of my reloading books go back aways
    last Lymans is 47 edtion ,hodgons an sierria all around the same time
    i know there is alot since newer stuff as far as powders go too...
    i just got this 700 vls 26" 1-9 twist [never had a 243 before] was looking for a jump start ..only 'cause [time wise] i will be moving in 5-6 weeks .... an wanted at least to get a head start......anyways thanks one an all , it has been helpful just reading your thoughts .....Rich g....Ct.,06804 for now....
