30-30 load
i recently acquired an old savage model 340C. it is a bolt action carbine chambered for 30-30. my question is this, does anyone have a good load for it ? using a spitzer bullet ? since it is short barrelled 18 1/2 inches, and light, it should make a good still-hunting gun. i would like a load that would fill in between my .243 and my .280. i guess i'm looking for a brush load that is good past 100 yards. thanks for the help

Gary,
Here is a site that has loads for the Savage 340 with spitzer bullets.
http://www.loadyourown.com/loaddata/sdata.asp
Go to 'rifle calibers' at the bottom of the screen and scroll to 30-30, select that then click on submit. The list of loads will be the next screen.
Here's another page of loads. You can select the component(s) or just select all.

That should give you a start.0 -

The sites given are a realy good source! The Savage 340 is one of the few guns available for a decent price that will allow you to wring that extra bit out of the venerable old 30-30 Win. If you have any questions regarding the other 340's, please contact me through my profile. As I have been collecting them for awhile now I have a pretty good wealth of info. regarding the series!
