Sig mdl 228 vs. 229?
Does anyone have experience with both, and can give some pros, cons, opinions or preferences?

These are a couple of the most accurate out-of-the-box production pistols you can get.
As far as pro's/con's when compared, except for the 229 being slightly smaller they're basically the same pistol. IMHO, the 229 doesn't have a big advantage when it comes to concealability. The size difference isn't that great and affects the balance and handling more than the ability to conceal.
I fired each of them extensively before making my choice and assumed the 228 would be the more accurate due to it's longer sight radius. I also expected it's extra slide length would add weight out toward the muzzle and decrease recovery time between rounds. To my surprise I found that I was more accurate and my rapid fire times were better with the 229.
The pistols are pretty much equal, so the choice is subjective. I suggest you find a range where you can try them out side by side with more than 1-2 mags and go from there.0 -
Txs, I think you are trying to compare the 226 to the 229, and he asked about the 228 and 229.
The 228 is only available in 9mm and has the older design two-piece slide.
The 229 is available in 9mm, .40, and .357 and has the newer one-piece stainless steel slide.
The guns are the same size and weight.
I am not sure the 228 is even available new. It may have been supplanted by the 229 in 9mm.

The two piece slide, meaning that the breech block is pinned into the slide rather than being milled from one solid piece, makes no difference in actual performance or operation. The first that many owners are aware they have a seperate breech block in their pistol is when they see the parts diagram.
They are basically the same pistol and are equals in performance.0 -
Both the 228 and 229 are still in production, with the 228 being a compact version of the 226. I should have specified that 9mm was the caliber I was considering, as the 229 is available in others as well. The 229 appears sleeker and lighter, also about 100 bucks more, and I know both are excellent guns, so I guess it's a draw.

I was leed to believr that it was no diff..thhe 228 ans 229 were the same gun but since they disconttinuee the 228 that the 228 was te same gun as the 229 but only offered in 9mm go with sig saur you cant go wrong
