More S & W 1000
I finally got the goo cleaned out of the mag tube and cut a piece of leather to use as,at least a temp fix, and it still did not cycle. Come to find out there is a small plastic piece that fits behind the bolt in a hole in the receiver. The plastic piece had come out and would not allow the bolt to go all the way back. I put the piece back and it worked a couple of times then did the same thing. The plastic piece won't stay in place and when it comes out the bolt won't go back far enough to cycle a shell. how bad will it kill my gun to just take that piece out?

Do you mean the recoil spring plunger? Look here and tell what # the part is. http://www.e-gunparts.com/productschem.asp?chrMasterModel=1980z1000

I'VE GOT A 1000 IN FOR REPAIRS , ONCE IN WHILE [EVERY 50-75 SHOTS] THE BOLT WILL NOT GO FORWARD COMPLETELY . IT'S BEEN DISSAEMBLED AND I'LL TAKE A LOOK AT THE PIECE GIVING YOU A HEADACHE , MAYBE I CAN SEE JUST HOW IT SHOULD BE HELD IN PLACE .SOUNDS LIKE THE ACTION SPRING GUIDE HAS POPPED THE COLLAR HOLDING IT INTO SPRING TUBE . IT MAY HAVE BEEN DAMAGED BY THE BOLT .

I don't think so. I don't see anything on the diagram that looks like the piece. It is right above the action spring guide (#5) at the back of the receiver. It is white plastic and about the size of an earplug with a notch in it. 0 -
Thanks Thinman. 0 -
It sounds like you have a later model gun with a plastic A/S guide. Contact Numrich(gun parts co.) and see if they will put you on their list for the next one that comes in.
THINMAN, All the ones that I've had come in for the bolt not closing back up, were due to the mag. tube being bulged just below the piston pin slots. Too many shots after the shock absorber turned to goo.It won't allow the action bar sleeve and/or the piston connecting ring to slide over the tube freely.

TRAPP55,
THANKS FOR THE INSIGHT , I'LL CHECK THE TUBE . THIS ONLY HAPPENS EVERY 50-100 RDS. OR SO . IF I DON'T FIND A PROBLEM WITH THE TUBE WHAT NEXT , ANY IDEAS . THE OPERATING HANDLE SEEMS TO BE BINDING ON SOMETHING .
YOUR INPUT IS MUCH APPRECIATED .THANKS!

If that isn't it, I'll be surprised. Look for bent action bars or link rods.Pistons get buggered up too, and sometimes the goo runs up in that area. I have the original owners manual downloaded on my PC that has a much clearer schematic if that would help you. It's a total of 12 pages and each page can be as big as 3MB, so it's a real pain to e-mail. Just remembered i had one that had a small dent in the action spring tube that would hang the plunger up and cause the bolt to stop about 3mm's before it closed. What threw me off,is it only did it when it got warm after a few boxes of shells. E-mail me if you need that schematic and let me know what you find.
