Cannon Gun Safe Electronic Lock Question
I got a Cannon safe a couple days ago. It comes with a default code from factory. After bustin' my butt getting it all bolted to the concrete and set up like I wanted it, I followed the directions to personalize the entry code.
It says, open the door and 'do this and that', and "IF YOU MAKE A MISTAKE IT REVERTS BACK TO THE ORIGINAL CODE".
Guess what? It didn't and now recognizes neither..
I have come to the conclusion the keypad is like a keyboard on a computer, and the 'motherboard' (so to speak) is inside the door. As the door is open (thank God), I am contemplating removing the inner panel and suspect to find a "reset button" or something like that?!
ANYONE "BEEN THERE AND DONE THAT"?
Cannon is closed until Tuesday, and I will call them then if I cannot figure it out in the meantime. Thanks, Joe

Myself, I would wait until Tuesday and call Cannon beore tearing into anything. If you tear into it without a rep from Cannon guiding you, they may void any kind of warranty you may have.
Just my 2 cents

Wise advice I am sure, but damn I'm curious[;)] 0 -
REMOVE THE FRONT COVER AND REMOVE THE BATTERY. THIS WILL RETURN IT TO THE FACTORY DEFAULT COMD. WHEN YOU INSTALL THE BATTERY BACK IN AGAIN. THEN YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO USE THE FACTORY COMB. AGAIN. 0 -
Thanks roger; All ship from factory with the same preset entry code (which they instruct the buyer to change). There is a 6-digit code on the inner lock block written in pencil on masking tape. I would suspect this is the (real) factory default code for the assembly. I tried the removing the battery thing with the pencilled number, but that doesn't work. Probably has a keystroke sequence before it is accepted ?!?
After all of this, I realized that the heat of a fire would "melt" the electronics (wiring, etc.) at least at the surface of the door rendering it inoperable. Bring out the can-opener!
I believe I would recommend anyone buying a gunsafe to stick to a mechanical lock!
Thanks again for the input, Joe0 -
This may be an obvious question, but did you remember to press "enter" after you put in the code? I ask because I recently bought a safe with a similar lock. I kept putting in the code, but the door would not open.
After being reminded to use the "enter" button, it works perfectly.BTW the "enter" button on my lock is the "pound" button.
It ain't what you shoot, it's what you hit.0 -
The mechanincal locks are good, unless you have multiple safes and combinations to remember. With electronic locks you can make them all the same, which really sucks if the burglar figures out your code.

I have a couple of Sentry safes to keep my low end stuff. They are fairly inexpensive and are welded construction - not a "gun cabinet" made from sheetmetal.
I was surprized to see them at the Shot Show this year. But I was blown away to see their new finger print reading lock. Now that is sweet!

You can reset the combinations on mechanical locks and make them all the same. I've changed the combo on my Browning several times. 0 -

Oh well, Tuesday is nearly here, thanks anyway... [:)]0 -
If you can't get in it Email me up. I will guarantee you a solution how to get it open. 0 -

I turned in all my C-2, Det cord and boosters when I retired, Thank You [;)][:)]0 -
The small electronic safe I have has a back-up key. You remove a panel on the front & the keyhole is under there. 0 -
No keys, only two units, keypad on outside and block locking mechanism inside.
Just for the record, I finally defeated the BUGGER! It was a system of keystroke entries to reprogram it. As far as to the details, my lips are sealed (I don't want you characters cleanin' it out)[:D]
One thing I might say to you , IF any of you get a Cannon Executive Vault with electronic locking mechanism, "I would think long and hard BEFORE trying to enter a 'second users combination'". After figuring it out, I tried it again just in case I erred the first time and it did it again. But, this time I knew how to correct it! Good as new now!
Thanks for the input [^]0 -
I have two Cannons with the electronic lock, and never had a problem changing the combo. I had a problem with the mechanical lock on my old ammo safe. After the second time of having to force it open I changed it to the electronic style. No problems what so ever.
As to taking the battery out like one poster mentioned, that does not work, as the memory chips in these units are non-volatile.
Your mileage may vary.

Alpine; quote:I have two Cannons with the electronic lock, and never had a problem changing the comboThat is good to know. I had no problems either UNTIL I attempted to register a "2nd user". Two attempts had the same results. (lock-up and not recognizing either code) Needless to say there is only a single user combination in it now.
BTW; just a hint. Should you want insurance against a problem without having to contact Cannon and prove ownership of the unit, pull the panel off from the inside of the doors when open and note the (new) default combo written on the masking tape sticker on the side of the locking block. Use of this along with lock manufacturer information obtained on internet will help rectify problems of lock-out. (Substitute the (new) numbers for the factory default code)
I have no problem with posting this as the factory code obtained over the internet (as a pdf file) has been changed and is USELESS without the number from INSIDE OF THE DOOR. Anyone opening a hole in the door to 'see it' is already in anyway!0
