Aluminum Coloring???

Hey guys, I do a little touch up one some older guns for some of my friends, and one of the frustrating things that I have come up against is, how to re-blacken the aluminum parts on these guns.
Everything I have tried, has failed, but to be honest I haven't tried but a couple of different products, such as Birch Wood Casey's " Aluminum black touch up.
Are there any other products or process' that work any better for this kind of job?

    Duracoat perhaps? That'd be the route I'd go unless I had access to anodizing equipment[;)]

    If it is not anodized it may also be Aldined, If you have a plating shop near buy, they could tell you which process was done. If I recall its not super expensive to have small parts redone.

    We could learn a lot from crayons: some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull, some have weird names, and all are different colors....but they all exist very nicely in the same box.

    We're set up to anodize in-shop now, so that is the route we use.

    Before that, we had decent results with the baking lacquers sold by Brownells.

    anodizing is chemistry and heat. if you tweek the powders, you can get some nice colors. all of which are expensive. remember the old browning colored double autos? thats where i learned about it all.

    How can I tell if it is anodized, and what is Duracoat? And where can I find it?
