C&R and Garands question

I am sorry of this question has been asked 100 times here already. But if anyone can find a link to an answer I would be much obliged.

Question:
As far as selling my Garand to a C&R holder... when is that legal and when is it illegal?

Subquestions:

1) The Garand is legal in all 50 states without special permit still right? I know it is grandfathered in NY and I think everywhere else even in states that have extra 'assault weapon' restrictions like clip size if 5+, but I am not sure about Commiefornia?

2) The C&R talks about semi-auto and bolt actions made on or before 1945 as OK for C&R transfer.

But how exactly is that defined? Since most military surplus Garands are piecemiel parts rebuilds and some parts may be made before 45 and some after... what do we look at?

Is it the receiver only that counts for manufacture time? Ignore the barrel, stock, etc etc...?

And how the heck do I determine exact date of manufacture nased on that Springfield number on the reciever?

I play by the rules, as crappy and stupid as they are sometimes, but I don't want to just say "Need an FFL, no C&R accepted" if a C&R is OK.

    Oh yeah, and does anyone know a vendor that sells TE Gauges for 30-06?

    The C&R list update shows that all US M1 rifles made before 1958 are considered to be C&R's. Since none were built AFTER 1957, rest assured that any US M1 rifle in "original issue" configuration can be legally transferred to a C&R holder.

    BATF has ruled that "original issue" includes M1's modified for/by the US military. So, the M1C, M1D, M1 NM, and US Navy .308 conversions are C&R's. On the other hand, a "tanker" is not a C&R since none were ever issued.

    The new update to the C&R list put out by BATF changed the date to 1958. See the link:
