    The C&R list update shows that all US M1 rifles made before 1958 are considered to be C&R's. Since none were built AFTER 1957, rest assured that any US M1 rifle in "original issue" configuration can be legally transferred to a C&R holder.

    BATF has ruled that "original issue" includes M1's modified for/by the US military. So, the M1C, M1D, M1 NM, and US Navy .308 conversions are C&R's. On the other hand, a "tanker" is not a C&R since none were ever issued.

    The new update to the C&R list put out by BATF changed the date to 1958. See the link:
