what kind of barrel should i get for a 10/22 that has the best accuracy?

I am puzzeled buy the prices I am seeing on all sites for mags for this gun. I can understand the banned mags of over 10 rounds but even the 10 round mags. are selling for over retail. I just bought a standard replacement mag at wallyworld for $6 and change.Are these aftermarket mags being taken apart and somehow increasing the capacity,and if so,just how is that being done?Thanks,Wade

Actually HV ammo is the most common or "normal".22lr in use these days and the 10-22 was designed to use it. Thats why it wont cycle with standard vel ammo.
Standard Vel ammo was made for some earlier .22's like the first issue Colt Woodsman pistols made in the early 1900's.
If you started removing material from the bolt to lighten it you would void any warranty, and weaken the bolt which could lead to breakage. It would likely lessen the bearing surface area which could lead to more problems.

You could cross drill the bolt in non-vital area to lighten it up (instead of shortening it!), but aside from the previously mentioned warranty issues...why?!?! the standard high vel stuff out there these days is well made and generally accurate and costs no more than standard velocity you can buy. In many cases the standard velocity is MORE expensive so why go there? I would leave it alone and while not putting a lot of mini-mags through it, I would stick to high velocity and not shave that bolt. By the way, my 10/22 loves the CCI plain old 500 round bricks whch are cheap. Also, it seems to me that the 10/22 is supposed to operate with ANY standard 22 long rifle round so you might have either a question for Ruger, or need to do a little housekeeping/lubricating work in the reciever area. Additionally, are you using lighter than 40 gr. standard bullet weight? A buddy just suffested that one while reading over my shoulder and it makes sense too that with the new found variety of bullet weights for the 22 LR that might be an issue too!

There are in some custom guns, but from Ruger ... no.

I would think that cutting coils from the spring would achive the same result as reducing the weight of the bolt & could more easily be reversed. If it didn't work you would only be out the cost of a new spring. 0 -
I guess you want to shoot standard velocity because that is what most target ammo is ElEY RWS SK JAGD ETC what we do in bulls-eye pistols is get a spring that takes less pounds to compress it from BROWNELL or WOLFF this works better then cutting coils. cutting coils sometimes keeps the slide / bolt from closing all the way Try www.champchoice.com they have lots of target ammo and one that I like is SK Jadg pistol special it is loaded hotter and I use in my KART 22 in the winter with flawless results. 0 -

You might try other types too. My stainless 10/22 won't shoot standard ammo unless it's of the wax coated type like Remington Thunderbolts. Of course it'll cycle the hot stuff like you mentioned but the other is a lot cheaper. Ya might try a box through it if you haven't already. 0 -
I would not consider it new. It has between 5 to 10 000 rounds throug it. And you are right the eley will lead to feeding problems.
