Zeiss Conquest Question for Guns & Glass
I was told by a dealer the Zeiss Conquest line has the Zeiss germany lens but is just assembled in the USA and designed for American hunters (4" eye relief and such).
A friend told me they use japanese lens in the Zeiss Conquest line.
Which is right? Thanks for your help.

Travis,...I have to claim uncertainty on this one. I have been under the impression that the lenses were the same German lenses with the T3 coatings,..and the "components" were assembled here in the U.S. I would not be suprised to find that maybe they contracted out to Hakko (Japan) to make their lenses and coat them,..but I would bet that they are the german lenses with the T3 coatings,..which are then shipped here for assembly. Even if they were Hakko lenses,..they would no doubt be of the higher quality glass available,..as Hakko makes lenses for the likes of Leupold and Nightforce[8D], all the way down to Tasco. It is the grade of the glass (not considering coatings) which yields the performance and clarity. Hakko, Zeiss,..and Schott Glasswerks (IOR Valdada) make some superb optical glass and Coatings. Sorry I couldn't offer a definite answer. Give Guns-and-Glass a hollar,..he is knowledgeable about the "internal workings" and construction of most optics on the market.
why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

Thanks for the reply Just C. I changed the heading so hopefully G&G will know the answer. Either way I really like the scope. I have a Swarovski PV on my main rifle and had a new Schmidt & Bender before that. For the money the conquest is not far behind those.

Zeiss Conquest is a price point line of good optics.
Componets are both made and outsourced, some glass maybe comming from a joint venture in the Far East(waiting for confirmation), with final assembly done in the USA.
Just check the Euro vs dollar, add Import Tax on finished goods, and one can quickly see why Zeiss assembles here.
Glass isn't their higher quality, nor are T3 coatings used, like on their premium optics, but another high quality broad band spectrum which they call MC.
Designed to compete in the USA market since it's an "Americanized scope".
Meaning one inch (1") tube and having a non magnifying recticle (not my perferred choice), selling against the Leupold VXIII, Nikon Monarch, and close to the preferred Burris Signature series.
Best of my knowledge, Hakko isn't involved, I hope not.
But do know that Zeiss will eventually have trouble if Hakko is.
Just like Shepherd, and Night Force both did years ago.
They both cut their losses, and ran away fast, but poor ole' Springfield Armory is still using Hakko.
